Summer Reading Program Kick-Off ,
"Build a Better World" .

The Holyoke Public Library is participating in the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) 2017,"Build a Better World".

Registration start Monday, June 26, 2017 and Reading Program begins Wednesday, July 5th.
“Build a Better World” is the 2017 summer reading theme developed by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP). To fit with the Architecture, Building, and Construction theme, Jungle Jim's new show is titled Minecraft Madness!

Join Jungle Jim as he leads your young patrons (3-10 years old) through the magical world of Minecraft! Combining balloon artistry, magic, comedy and improv, Jim creates an amazing experience for children.

Activities include the Building Block Madness Tournament, a riveting Zombie Chase, the Balloon Firework Rocket extravaganza, and the incredible giant slime-ball creation!
When Jim Manning contemplated climbing inside of a 6 foot balloon for the first time, he thought it was a joke. “I thought I was being had,” says Manning. He was attending a conference for balloon twisters in Chicago, and  another “twister” was needed for a giant experiment. The experience was a great one. “It was exhilarating,” explains Manning. “I had to overcome my fears and was glad I did!” The 6 foot balloon has now become the big finale of his performance.

Manning will be bringing his 6 foot balloon and the rest of his act to the Holyoke Public Library this June. Manning, or as he is known by his moniker “Jungle Jim,” will be performing in Holyoke on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm as part of the Summer Reading Program Kick-Off.
The Holyoke Public Library is participating in the Collaborative Summer Library Program, or CSLP, for 2017. Each year the CSLP creates a nationwide theme for libraries to follow, such as superheroes, sports and science. This year “Build a Better World” This theme allows libraries across the country to share resources, reducing costs and encouraging the exchange of ideas on a national level.
Jungle Jim’s shows are a bit different, as he combines magic, comedy and balloons to present a program that encourages literacy and reinforces the fun of being at the library. For this year’s theme, Jungle Jim is using the video game “Minecraft” as his inspiration for “Build a Better World.” Manning is an experienced library performer, having entertained at over 500 libraries in eight different states. He recently returned from a 10-show tour for the Hawaii State Library System, performing “Minecraft Madness” on 3 different islands for over a thousand children.
