City of Holyoke to Celebrate Holyoke Pride

The City of Holyoke announces Pride month activities beginning with the opening of the Sexual Minorities Archives (SMA) on Saturday, June 3rd at 3:00 pm, and ending with Drag Bingo at Gateway City Arts (GCA) , Thursday, June 29, at 8:00 pm. Mayor Alex B. Morse invites the public to participate in the month-long series of events geared towards showcasing Holyoke’s commitment to equality, justice and the spirit of inclusion to all.

This Saturday, June 3rd at 3:00 pm will be the grand opening event for the LGBTQIA community to celebrate the settlement of the Sexual Minorities Archives (SMA) in its new home in Holyoke, Massachusetts and to inaugurate the Leslie Feinberg Library within the SMA. The Sexual Minorities Archives is a 43-year-old, grassroots community repository of LGBTQIA literature, history, and art located in curator Ben Power’s residence at 135 Lincoln Street in Holyoke.

The Pride Flag Raising Ceremony hosted by the City of Holyoke will take place on June 9 at 5:00 pm in front of City Hall. The city will honor “House of Colors” - a youth based directed resource center for LGBTQIA youth and their allies that fosters a safe and welcoming environment by promoting community and offering resources that meet the needs of all its members. It is located at Enlace de Familias, 299 Main Street Holyoke, MA. Entertainment at the flag raising will be provided by the Imperial Court of Western Massachusetts.

The 4th Annual Western Mass Triple Crown Pageant will take place in the ballroom of City Hall on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 6:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. A suggested donation of $10.00 is encouraged. This event features the crowning of Miss Lesbian Western Mass, Ms. Gay Western Mass and Mr. Gay Western Mass. The Imperial Court of Western Mass is a nonprofit 501c3 fundraising organization that raises money for charity, and has given away over $65,000 over the past 5 years.

Gateway City Arts (GCA) will be having Drag Bingo on June 29th at 8:00 pm. This event is hosted by Holyoke’s own Jenayah de Rosario. There is a fee of ten dollars for ten rounds of bingo and food and drinks are available at the bar.
