Annual Human Relations Award Banquet to Honor Mark Todd for Distinguished Service

On Tuesday, June 20th, the Greater Holyoke Council for Human Understanding will host their annual Human Relations Award Banquet. The reception will begin at 5:30 pm at the Summit View Banquet and Meeting House.

Every year, the Council for Human Understanding awards three high school students in the Greater Holyoke Area the Citizenship Award. This year’s recipients are Adeline Skuse, Sarah Healy, and Nehemiah Wilson.

This year’s recipient of the award For Distinguished Service to the Cause of Good Human Relations will be Mark Todd. Mark Todd was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and later went on to attend college at Westfield State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Between 1979 and 1998 he taught in the Springfield Public Schools and then moved to teach in the Holyoke Public Schools in 1998. He is a member of the Beavers Club of Western Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Music Educators’ Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the American String Teachers’ Association.

Todd is also the Director of the Holyoke High School Madrigals, a choir that has performed at the Governor’s State of the State Address for Governor Mitt Romney, the State Democratic Convention, the Council for Human Understanding Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, the Council for Human Understanding Holocaust Remembrance, the St. Patrick’s Day Colleen Pageant, and many other events. Todd has four sons and is married to Lori Maquin Todd.

The program will also include remarks by Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse and will be emceed by State Representative Aaron Vega.

Dinner is $45.00 for adults and $25.00 for high school students (tax & tip included), and membership fees are $25.00 per person.
