Author David Cecchi Presents His New Book AT Holyoke Public Library

Join us on Monday, April 24, 2017 for a presentation on the Centennial of the Eastern States Exposition by David Cecchi, author of the new Images of America title The Big E: Eastern States Exposition. Cecchi will talk about the Exposition: the reasons for its founding; the momentous National Dairy Show of 1916; the prestigious Springfield Horse Show; Storrowton Village; the state buildings; the Boy Scouts’ Mohawk Indian Village; and more! He will share photos and artifacts from his extensive collection of Exposition memorabilia, some of which is on display at the Eastern States Exposition Centennial exhibit at the Agawam Historical & Fire House Museum, 35 Elm Street, Agawam, which will be open on Sunday, April 23, 2017, from 1-4 PM. Much of his collection was also on display in the Exposition’s Centennial Exhibit at the fair last fall.

Copies of The Big E: Eastern States Exposition will be available for purchase on the 24th.

Cecchi is a longtime board member of the Agawam Historical Association and chairman of the Agawam Historical Commission. He was recently presented with the K. Julie McCarthy Community Spirit Award by Preservation Massachusetts as someone who embodies the spirit of community based historic preservation in the Commonwealth. He was the keynote speaker at the 2016 annual meeting of the trustees of the Eastern States Exposition, and was presented with the Friend of The Big E award by Exposition president Eugene Cassidy for his support of the Exposition and The Big E.

Cecchi and his brothers have exhibited produce from his family’s farm at the Exposition for decades; their most recent display received a blue ribbon. He loves the fair.
