Hotel Jess Redevelopment Opportunity

MassDevelopment is seeking proposals from developers for the redevelopment of the former “Hotel Jess”, an 8,550-square-foot, three-story, historic brick building located at a key gateway in Holyoke, Massachusetts’ Innovation District. The Hotel Jess, located on a highly visible corner of Dwight and Main Street, is adjacent to the new Amtrak Train Station. The building and two adjacent lots are available for commercial, residential or mixed-use redevelopment. The site is within walking distance to the newly developed Canal Walk, City Hall, Heritage Park, and revitalized buildings on Race Street. The property is well suited for micro-hospitality, market rate housing, retail, artist live/work space, or other uses that promote the arts, culture, and innovation identity of the district.

MassDevelopment is working with the City of Holyoke to facilitate targeted public and private investment in the Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) district, in which the Hotel Jess is situated. Holyoke was selected as one of 10 TDI Districts by MassDevelopment in 2014. The TDI program is a cross-agency redevelopment program for the Gateway Cities designed to support local planning initiatives with next-step implementation, including strategic real estate investments that further propel redevelopment. In keeping with the objectives of the TDI district, MassDevelopment seeks development proposals that will restore the building and activate this critical property and immediate area which serves as the southeast gateway to the district.
