Dr. Oliver Akamnonu and his new book,
"Big Apple to Bay State"
Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 7:00pm

Join us as Dr. Oliver Akamnonu presents his recently released book “BIG APPLE TO BAY STATE” at the Holyoke Public Library on Wednesday, September 21 at 7pm.

“The 2016 book crafted from the cozy and quiet confines of two beautiful libraries in Holyoke and South Hadley Massachusetts USA, and today, read across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, bringing joy and improved societal understanding to many around the world, "Big Apple to Bay State" (499 pages with interlacing poetry and images) narrates the joys and vicissitudes of urban New York City with its congestion, subways, 24-hour ceaseless buzz, and dazzling neon lights and the sharp contrasts for Dege, the principal character in the book, as he and his wife of 35 years, having copiously traversed sprawling Los Angeles and New York Cities in the United States, relocating and settling in more remote, yet highly sophisticated Western Massachusetts community, with multitudes of cooperating if not competing higher educational institutions, intricately-interwoven communities, sophisticated and dazzling world-class libraries and small business ventures.

The adventure continues as the senior citizen Dege struck as it were by the irresistible allure of the ubiquitous academics, goes back to school and finds fulfillment rehearsing many unfamiliar volumes of books in one of the higher institutions in Western Massachusetts.”

This “thought-provoking, hilarious and educative” book has its background on life and living in New York as contrasted with Massachusetts, comparing and contrasting in memoir-like fiction the intricacies of a relocation from one to the other. It is the 5th book in the series titled “The Suppers Series” from this unknown but optimistic Massachusetts-based author: Dr. Oliver Akamnonu.
