Belle Skinner: The Difference One Woman Made

On Wednesday, September 14 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Wistariahurst will host a presentation by Holly Hudnut Halliday on the impact of Belle Skinner on the community of Hattonchatel, France. This village, nearly destroyed during World War I, was rebuilt through the efforts of Belle Skinner and the financial support of her brother, William. In 1923, Miss Skinner was awarded the French Legion of Honor by President Millerand for her efforts rebuilding the village.

This story will be brought to life at Wistariahurst by Belle Skinner’s great-niece, Holly Hudnut Halliday. Inspired by this woman ahead of her time, Holly Halliday will draw on family stories, letters, and her many visits to Wistariahurst when her grandmother, Katharine Skinner Kilborne, lived here. Holly Halliday serves on the Board of Historic Holyoke at Wistariahurst. The talk will be followed by an optional tour of Wistariahurst focused on the impact of Belle Skinner on Wistariahurst and the Holyoke community. Tickets are available online atwww.Wistariahurst.org
