Holyoke, A Citywide Festival, October 9-11

Join PassportHolyoke and its community partners for a fun-filled weekend of art, sport, food, history, nature, music, and culture on October 9, 10, and 11. Next Stop: Holyoke encourages residents and visitors to explore the exciting revitalization of Holyoke’s arts and entertainment district with a host of enriching activities for the whole family. Make Holyoke your next stop on Columbus Day weekend and experience the best of the Paper City!

Next Stop: Holyoke kicks off on Friday, October 9 with the Holyoke Latin Jazz Festival, a celebration of fiery Latin jazz, salsa, mambo, and other traditional beats from Cuba and Puerto Rico in an affordable, family-friendly setting. Also on Friday is the opening of Artists/Artisans 2015, an exhibit celebrating both the functional and the fanciful, presented by Paper City Studios in collaboration with the UMass Arts Extension Service. On Saturday, October 10, head to Heritage State Park and enjoy the beautiful fall weather with outdoor events including an arts bazaar, storytime for kids, storm drain art, a community picnic, and pick-up volleyball games. Learn about Holyoke’s architectural history with walking tours throughout the city and delight in the season’s bounty with harvest-themed activities at Wistariahurst Museum. Watch dancers rehearse at Massachusetts Academy of Ballet, learn about the Skinner Chapel, root for basketball teams at Race Street Ruckus, and rock out at the Pioneer Valley Music Showcase. Next Stop: Holyoke’s Sunday offerings include a tour of Fairfield Avenue Local Historic District and the Holyoke League of Arts and Crafts’ opening reception. The Viva Great Holyoke Block Party closes out the weekend with an exciting lineup featuring a regional car show and local rock, reggae, and Latin bands.
