Door to Door Scam

The Holyoke Police Department would like to make the public aware of a “door to door scam” which occurred in Holyoke on Tuesday, 9/15/2015. A white male, clean cut and well dressed with a professional appearance was going door to door on Homestead Ave in Holyoke attempting to sell tickets for $40 for “Operation Military Pax”, a “Meal Ticket Plan for Meals Ready for Veterans”.

The suspect handed a “ticket” to the victim which was heavily creased and bent as if it was kept in a pocket for months. The ticket also advised that a “2015 Homecoming”, Date and Time to be announced” was to be held. The ticket bears the words “Welcome Home Troops” and advises the purchaser to “retain for tax purposes”. The suspect advised the victim that he was “affiliated with Westover” and had brochures containing his photograph. It is clear the suspect was counting on the emotional and patriotic desire of many to support US Military personnel who have sacrificed so much.

This is a false fundraising scam and the United States Military would never conduct such activities.

We would advise the public to report any suspicious and fraudulent activity by calling your local Police Department.

Thank you.
