Gateway City Art’s Third Anniversary Celebration

The Gateway City Arts center on 92-114 Race Street in Holyoke, MA celebrates it’s third year as an up and coming hub for creatives, event space for cultural happenings, and home of several pop-up restaurants.

Over the past few years a team of widely skilled creatives, led by GCA co-directors, Vitek Kruta and Lori Divine, have transformed Gateway City Arts from the former Judd Paper Factory to a multi-use center that is host to three event spaces, including its’ largest space, a 6000 sq. ft. former warehouse, separated from the main GCA building by an alley courtyard that is now functioning as a summer beer garden and grill. To further support GCA’s mission of creating a vibrant community of creatives in downtown Holyoke, GCA has a plethora of co-working spaces for artists including a woodshop, ceramics studio, drawing/painting studio, dance studio, and personal workspaces. Of course, what cultural hub would be complete without a dining area where members and visitors can now grab a falafel sandwich from the “Holyoke Hummus Company” or discover an array of fresh “new american cuisine” options from “Fast Friends, Slow Food with Love.”

The celebration begins on Saturday, June 27, with tours of GCA’s facilities from 3:00-5:00pm and an art exhibit that features the works of GCA members and students of classes such as Benjamin Martin’s junior artists class, Dean Nimmer’s creative arts workshops, and Ed Cope’s woodcarving class. The GCA beer garden and grill is open from 12-10pm and serves Paper City Beer on tap, New City Ginger Beer, wine, cocktails and food such as duck confit and braised cabbage, watermelon vodka salad, and more.

A swamp boogie dance party with Shaka and the Soul Shaker’s tops off the celebration at 8:00pm. Shaka and The Soul Shakers are a high energy R&B band led by New Orleans transplant & frontman Bill Shaka who provides audiences with a highly entertaining show sprinkled with new Orleans storytelling.

Tickets to the concert are $6 in advance and $8 at the door and can be purchased at www.gatewaycityarts.com. The open house is free of charge. For more information contact Gateway City Arts at 413-650-2670 or hello@gatewaycityarts.com.
