May Days at the Holyoke Public Library

As we continue with our Conversations with Local Author Series, on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 PM, Anna Bozena Bowen will delight us with her new book Hattie, a novel that begins with the end—the end of a woman’s life. In a spare and powerful narrative—delivered in three parts “In The Meadow,” “By the Stream,” and “Through the Woods” —this soulful novel takes us on an intimate journey through the meaning of Hattie’s life and life in general. It delves fearlessly into the complexity of our human relationships, our yearning for the divine, and the ways in which these paths cross throughout our lives.

For Hattie, love and loss are so intertwined it is hard to separate the two. By sharing her stories, Hattie reconnects with parts of her lost life and loves and finds the courage to tell the truths of her life—in death she discovers her voice. The novel Hattie is a mystical, spiritual, and very human experience.

Anna Bozena Bowen is a poet, writer, holistic nurse and intuitive. She was the first American-born child to her Polish immigrant parents and was raised in a Polish community in Holyoke, Mass. Bowen’s holistic approach to life and connection to spirit is evidenced in Hattie, her debut novel. “Hattie has been with me for years,” says Bowen, “and in a way is a testament to the multidimensional aspects of our human and spiritual lives."
Our Conversations with Local Author Series are relaxed conversations between participants and an outstanding member of our author community.

After our discussion, Anna Bozena Bowen will sign books. Books will be available for purchase or bring your own.

Join us as we hike the Pacific Crest Trail with Wendy Johnson on Saturday, May 23 at 1:30pm. From April to September of 2013, Wendy Johnston backpacked the entire 2,700 mile long Pacific Crest Trail from the US/Mexican Border to the US/Canadian border through California, Oregon, and Washington.

Join Wendy for a compelling talk that focuses on the reasons she hikes long trails, some of the adversity she has overcome (both in life and on the trail), and the universal lessons that she has learned on her long hikes.

She will also present a slideshow of photos taken along her PCT hike. A question and answer session will follow. It is Wendy’s hope that you will leave inspired and encouraged to follow your own dreams!
All library programs are open to the public free of charge. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling Holyoke Public Library or by registering in person at the library’s front desk.
