Latest Phone Scam

On Friday, November 7, 2014, the Holyoke Police Department received a report of a cell phone scam in which the caller ID erroneously came up as 413-536-6431 (the Holyoke Police Department).

The victim received a call on her cell phone from a party falsely identifying himself as “Sgt. Alex Cooper”. (There is no such person at the Holyoke Police Department). The caller knew the victim’s name and demanded the victim provide him with the number of her attorney. The caller further stated to the victim that her accounts would be frozen, that she would be brought back to NY state for prosecution (despite the fact she has no ties to NY), and demanded a large sum of money.

The public should be aware of this latest scam to avoid being victimized by these predators. Do not be pressured by the common technique of scammers who place the victim(s) in fear and demand transfer or wire of large amounts of money to someone they do not know. Please report such activity or attempts to the Holyoke Police Department.
