BBQ at Holyoke Canoe Club to Benefit Holyoke Organizations

Join three Holyoke organizations for an afternoon of food, fun, and live entertainment at the Holyoke Canoe Club, located on the scenic Connecticut River just off of Route 5. The family-friendly Barbecue Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. and will benefit PassportHolyoke, the Holyoke Latin Jazz Festival, and the Holyoke Winter Carnival. Tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased by Wednesday, September 10.

PassportHolyoke is teaming up with the Holyoke Latin Jazz Festival and the Holyoke Winter Carnival for an afternoon of live music and delicious barbecue including brisket, pork, and tasty sides from Seth Mias Catering. Vegetarians are welcome as an alternative meatless option will be made available; please indicate upon your ticket purchase. Enjoy lovely river views and the sounds of local bands Jazz Trip and The Way. Jazz Trip performs original instrumental compositions blending funk, rock, and jazz while The Way, a folk-rock-jazz jam band, plays both original songs and covers.

The Barbecue Fundraiser will help cover necessary costs for the following community events. PassportHolyoke’s three-day festival, Next Stop: Holyoke, builds on past Discover Holyoke day happenings with a variety of free and paid events during the weekend of October 10-12. Next Stop will feature visual arts displays and performances, food, music, recreational activities, and history programs – all of which highlight the many unique attributes of the City of Holyoke.

The Holyoke Latin Jazz Festival, which has provided Holyoke with exceptional live music for the past two years, will be a part of Next Stop: Holyoke’s festivities. On Friday, October 10, enjoy the rhythms and melodies of live Latin jazz and traditional salsa music in downtown Holyoke at the War Memorial.

The Fourth Annual Holyoke Winter Carnival, February 6-15, will bring community tradition to life once again with a full schedule of over 40 events spanning ten days. The opening night luminaria, sports tournaments, cooking contests, family day at Heritage State Park, and a free community pancake breakfast are just a few of the Winter Carnival’s offerings.

Tickets for the Barbecue Fundraiser may be purchased through the Holyoke Winter Carnival by contacting holyokewintercarnival@yahoo.com or calling (413) 244-6766 by Wednesday, September 10. Tickets are also available at Wistariahurst Museum, the Holyoke Parks and Recreation Department, and the Mayor’s Office during regular business hours.
